Works by an international array of emerging composers placed alongside and in the context of masterworks from the contemporary repertoire has formed the foundation of Riot’s programming since our formation in 2012. Many of our commissions feature on our growing discography, and many of our concerts result in other digital recordings and videos. Our annual Call for Scores receives between 400 and 500 applications each year and has resulted in over twenty commissions of composers from all over the world.
Since 2012, we have given more than 250 world and UK premieres by composers from nearly forty countries and have hosted composers from Australia, Italy, Hungary, Argentina, Brazil, Austria, Spain, France, South Korea and the United States to hear their music performed in the UK for the first time. We commission brand new work, and spend a lot of time listening to music – both in live concerts and digitally – to find music we are passionate about playing for our audiences.
