DEBRIS: FOUND MATERIALS
This is a season of debuts. Scotland. Rainy Days. Konzerthaus Berlin. France. The Royal Opera House. Places we have wanted to play for years. New voices debut with Riot too: Maija Hynninen, Yannis Kyriakides, Josephine Stephenson, Colin Riley, Matthew Whiteside and Philip Glass all make their first appearances on our programmes. It is also a season of returns. Aldeburgh Festival, the Southbank Centre and Klangspuren welcome us back, a new chapter of our residency at the Royal Academy of Music begins, and after a short time away we go home to hcmf//. We bring many friends with us: Lisa Streich, Jasmine Morris, Evan Johnson, BΓ‘ra GΓsladΓ³ttir, Georg Friedrich Haas, Jonah Haven, Dilay DoΔanay, Andrea Balency-BΓ©arn, Anna ThorvaldsdΓ³ttir and Rebecca Saunders return.
Running through all of it is one idea: Debris. What is left when a language, a system or a world runs out? What can be made anew from the rubble? A comedy about selling the apocalypse. A five-hour monument that ends its own style and leads to a generation of new music. An hour of darkness that ends in light.
The idea for us is the same as it has always been: make music we believe in, with people we love. Music that is urgent, distinctive and alive to the world around us, made with extraordinary artists and built to connect with audiences wherever we meet them.

Call for Scores - winners announced!
Our 2026 Call for Scores is now completed. Thank you to all composers for sharing your music with us. As always, it was a pleasure listening to these works over the past month.
We are delighted to announce this yearβs two winners:
Fergus Hall and Kate Milligan
Both composers will write us a quartet to sit alongside Henri Dutilleuxβs Les Citations and BΓ‘ra GΓsladΓ³ttirβs Seven heavens (of different heights (and depths)) in our chamber programme at The Night Withβ¦ in February 2027.
About Riot Ensemble
Riot Ensemble is an internationally renowned group dedicated to the creation, exploration and presentation of great contemporary works and new music yet to be discovered. Based in the UK, the ensemble comprises top European soloists who perform, curate, commission, and collaborate on a diverse array of projects including performances across the UK, international festival appearances, multi-year residencies and mentorships at conservatoires and universities, and a yearly Call for Scores. Their work has been shortlisted for RPS Awards in several categories and has been recognised by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundationβs prestigious Ensemble Prize in 2020.
