Wired in Amsterdam

Date: Thursday 28th May; 7.30pm
Venue: Orgelpark, Amsterdam
Last year, as part of our Les Citations project, we commissioned UK composer Chris Roe to write a new work for Oboe, Harpsichord, Percussion and Double Bass.  Chris’ piece WIRED was recorded for our first CD, and has now been selected as a finalist for the Prix annelie de Man.  We are thrilled to be heading to Amsterdam – our first international appearance – to perform Chris’ piece in the finals.

Young Composers at Work

We’re having a great time working with five young composers (Samuel Carrington, Nikhita Nandi, Marie-Louise Ptohos, Amelia Mills and Molly Kain) from the foreSOUND school of music as they prepare their pieces for our 15th May ‘Young Composer of the Year‘ concert.

We began by introducing the students to the instruments they would be writing for (Flute, Soprano, Piano, Violin and Cello) in a day of workshops.

The students then went away and wrote sketches, which they’ve been working on in a couple of lessons with our Artistic Director, Aaron Holloway-Nahum.

The players themselves will chose a ‘winning’ piece that we’ll perform again in 2016, and the audience will also select a piece to hear again on the night. We can’t wait to see – and give the World premieres – of all five pieces in a couple weeks.

Portfolio Workshop, LSO St Luke’s – 8.4.15

Yesterday, at LSO St. Luke’s, we workshopped three new pieces written for us by emerging UK composers Chloe Knibbs, Daniel Kidane, and Ed Nesbit.  In collaboration with Sound and Music, we commissioned these composers to write us new pieces featuring international soloists Rafal Luc, Heather Roche and Marco Fusi.

We’ll give the world premieres of all three of these pieces, along with three other pieces by Athena Corcoran-Tadd, Pedro Alvarez and Oliver Brignall, on 6th June at MeWe360.
